George Miklos Jr. Obituary

Oroville, WA - George Miklos Jr. died of complications from a stroke in North Valley Care Center in Tonasket, WA. On October 11, 2025

He was born September 25, 1940 in Vancouver, WA to George Sr and Lola Miklos. A couple years later the family moved to the Long Beach peninsula.

One of his favorite memories from high school was winning all but a single football game his junior year. After graduating from Ilwaco High School in 1959, he started a family with his high school flame Diana (Smith).

George started his working years as a commercial salmon troller and as his family grew in size, he also began working construction with his father-in-law, Russ Smith. Later, the commercial fishing changed to gillnetting and he built several new boats. The boats ranged from 28ft commercial bowpickers to 22ft dory and even a 14ft sailboat for a neighbor. After Russ passed, George bought his business and had his own construction company specializing in masonry work. He left a mark on many peninsula homes in that era. For a few years, his brother Richard was a business partner.

Even while fishing and working, he built most of the family homes. One in Nahcotta and another in Bear River. He worked weekends and after hours for months to complete them with the whole family pitching in.

Always the avid hunter, George retired at 50 and moved to the Okanogan highlands, building several more homes. There he continued to do some construction work to help finance his hunting and fishing endeavors. George and Diana traveled throughout the northwestern US and Canada including the Yukon and Alaska, often with atvs in tow. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, archery and trap shooting.

He leaves behind his wife, Diana; brother, Richard; children Rema, Rohne, Jorji and many grandchildren of whom will miss his unique sense of humor and hearty laugh.
