Astoria - In Loving Memory of Gladys Elizabeth (Powers) Suppe. With profound love and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Gladys E. Suppe on January 18, 2026, due to complications from the Influenza virus. Gladys Elizabeth (Powers) Suppe, born on November 27, 1933 in Astoria, Oregon, to Mary and Guy Powers. She spent her childhood growing up in Jewel, Oregon and went to school in the Vinemaple area. She had two brothers and two sisters, all of whom passed before her. She just celebrated her 92nd Birthday in November and would always tell people that she lived so long because she was just a tough old bird and then would laugh.
Gladys married her sweetheart Hubert Arthur Suppe, on July 16th, 1949, and was truly blessed to have shared 53 years together before his passing in July of 2002. They had four children, Mary Sizemore, Carl Suppe, Hubert Jr. (Butch), who was tragically killed in a logging accident in 1974 while working for Crown Zellerbach, and Elaine Robbins. She leaves behind a son, two daughters, 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, who will carry her memory forward with love, pride, and gratitude.
Gladys worked several jobs, including Ramey's Market in Seaside, cleaning clams for Hattie Snell, working at San Juan Fish Cannery, (later name changed to New England) in Warrenton, Oregon, for Mr. Gramson for 14 years. She also worked for Ken Grant at Granderson's Dept store on Broadway in Seaside for 11 years.
Besides her devotion and love towards family and friends, she greatly adored music, flowers, animals, baking and cooking! She was a woman of extraordinary strength, unwavering kindness and love for her family, her friends, her community, and the world around her. Her heart was a safe harbor for those in need, and her hands were always ready to help, whether through a warm meal, a gentle embrace, or words of encouragement that seemed to arrive exactly when they were needed most. Never seeking recognition but always leaving a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know her and always meeting life's challenges with great courage and strength, she taught us that kindness is never wasted, that hard work builds character, and that love-when given freely-has the power to heal and transform. Her home was more than a place; it was a sanctuary filled with laughter, the aroma of her cooking, and the comfort of knowing you were always welcome. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her legacy will live on in the countless many lives she touched.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that her love will continue to guide us. As she often reminded us, "Love is the one thing we take with us, and the one thing we leave behind." Her absence leaves a space that can never be filled, yet her spirit will forever remain woven into the fabric of our lives. Whether through her warm smile that could brighten the darkest day, her gentle wisdom that guided us through life's storms, or the countless acts of kindness she offered without expectations. Her home was a place where laughter was abundant, meals were shared with care, and everyone felt welcome. Our mom and grandmother was a woman of great strength and boundless compassion. You were our heart, our home, and our greatest blessing. Your light will never fade. Rest in peace.
All memorial donations can be made to Clatsop County Animal Shelter, in her name, as her deep love and compassion for animals was a huge part of who she was. Clatsop County Animal Shelter: 1315 SE 19th St. Warrenton, OR 97146
