Glen Arthur Herman, 66, passed away on February 7, 2025, in Portland, OR. Born in Faulkton, SD, to Ralph and Nina Herman, Glen graduated from Faulkton High School and earned a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Kansas in 1989.
Glen spent over 30 years at HNTB in Kansas City, where he was recognized as an Innovator of the Year and contributed to eight U.S. software patents in engineering and technology. After retiring, he moved to Astoria, OR, seeking new creative ventures. There, he co-founded Astoria Makers and the Astoria Studio Collective, combining his love for engineering, design, and the arts. Glen was passionate about fostering community and innovation, mentoring makers, and preserving historic spaces.
He is survived by his partner, Dionne Nichols; children, Alicia Terry and her husband Robert, Tara Springer and her husband Andrew, and Jerod Herman; three grandchildren, Ian, Nora and Isla, brother, Gale Herman and his wife Holly, Sister Cherry Frasier and her husband Eugene; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marlys, and brother Gene.
Glen will be remembered for his visionary spirit, generosity, and unwavering passion for creativity and collaboration.
