Seaside, Oregon - Gloria Ray Linkey, daughter, mother, sister, aunt, historian and local Seaside resident passed away July 2, 2026. She attended Seaside Elementary and Seaside High School. She leaves 2 daughters, Darci Linkey Bodin (So Calif) and Vicki Linkey (Mesa, AZ).

Gloria moved to Seaside when she was seven and attended school in Seaside and graduated in 1947. As she grew up, she developed a keen interest in the history of Seaside. She moved to Southern California and spent 38 years as a licensed insurance broker. She was named "Outstanding Business Woman" in San Diego.

Gloria served on the Seaside City Council from 1991-94. She served as the president and vice-president of Seaside Improvement Committee. She served on the Seaside Spring break committee as well as the Seaside safety committee.

While working for the Wyndham in Seaside she developed talks on the Lewis and Clark journey which she gave three times a week for the guests. She recorded audio tapes for the walking tours of Seaside. These audio tapes take place at various sites in the city and later on will be published in a book. Some of the sites are the grave of the unknown sailors located at the cove, the site of the original salt works, the aquarium and the Seaside museum. Included on these walking tours will be information about the Prom, the turnaround, the Lewis and Clark statue, the old bungalow dance hall, the pony lady and historic Gilbert district.

Gloria was a member of the Lewis and Clark Heritage Trail Foundation, both nationally and the Oregon Chapter. She served as Administrator of the Pacific Northwest Living Historians. She has been the secretary/treasurer and past president of the Seaside Museum and Historical Society. She was a board member of the Knappton Cove Heritage Foundation, and president of the Friends of the Columbia River Maritime Museum.

Gloria was inducted into the Seaside High School Hall of Fame in 2019 and was on the Seaside Library Board for many years. She passed away while living at Suzanne Elise Assisted Living with her daughter, Darci, holding her hand.
