Astoria, Oregon - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory Robert Backlin on April 9th, 2025.

Greg was born the third of four children on November 14th, 1961, in San Francisco, California to Margaret and Robert Backlin. His father, Robert Backlin, worked for the United States Coast Guard and after a couple moves between California and Massachusetts, the Backlin family made Astoria, Oregon their permanent home in 1972 when Greg was 11 years old. From there Greg continued his middle and high school education through the Astoria School District where he made life-long friendships.

Greg was a well-loved member of the community and happy to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed skiing, whitewater rafting, knee-boarding, golfing, and camping. Greg also shared a love for sports of all kinds and cooking great food for his friends and family. His warm greetings and kind smiles will be fondly remembered and missed by all those that knew him.

Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Backlin, and wife, Tami Backlin. He is survived by his daughter Chelsea (Chad) Sutfin; children by marriage Kyleigh (Skyler) Engen, Krysti (Erick) Pinard, and Dylan Bates; seven grandchildren Danilynn Hughes (Krysti), Gunner, Logan, and Collins Engen (Kyleigh), Landyn Bates (Dylan), Kelley Sutfin and soon-to-be Baby Sutfin July 2025 (Chelsea); father Robert Backlin; siblings Barbara (Richard) Marineau, Diane Bowden, and Laura (Paul) Houston; and several nieces and nephews.

All friends and family are welcome to attend a Celebration of Greg's Life on June 14th, 2025, from 1pm to 4pm, at the Netel Grange located 90525 Logan Rd. Astoria, Oregon.
