James Richard Robinson (Jim) Obituary
Astoria, OR - Jim was born May 28,1946, in Astoria, OR and adopted by Tracy and Evangeline Robinson. He attended Astoria schools, graduating from Astoria High in 1964 & Clatsop Community College with a degree in Business Technology Management in 1967.
He worked in local canneries and then as a Sports Coordinator for Astoria Parks & Recreation from 1969-70. In November 1970, Jim began working for The Daily Astorian as the Circulation Solicitor and held various other positions retiring as the Circulation Manager in 1992. He really enjoyed working with the newspaper carriers during that time. Jim owned Jim Robinson Photos from 1982-84 taking sports photos. He owned Goody Candy Company, a snack vending business, from 1992 until 2005. He later worked for the Astoria School District as an Instructional Assistant working with students for 8 years, retiring in 2016.
On September 8, 1984 Jim married Greta Meyers in Astoria and adopted her son David. Their son Tony was born in 1988. Jim & Greta owned Sales By Greta & Jim, an estate & garage sale business, for 25 years.
Jim was a loyal sports fan of NY Yankees, OSU Beavers, and all AHS sports. He coached youth sports teams including soccer, softball, flag football, and basketball for 28 years. His hobbies were woodworking, refinishing furniture, reading, bowling, photography, watching old cowboy episodes and sports. He loved being an Astoria Clown for many years. A highlight of his was attending several high school basketball tournaments and vacations with his family. He was a member of the Methodist Church serving as a head usher and youth group leader. He was very happy to meet his birth mother on his 66th birthday. He loved people and would always start a conversation with strangers.
Jim is survived by his wife Greta, sons, David & Tony (Clover); grandchildren (Otto & Jazlyn); half-brothers, Larry Ranieri (Dorothy), & Dan Ranieri (Val); half-sister, Terrie Weeks; sister-in-law, Jeanine Waddell (Jon); brothers-in-law, Mike Malmberg & Joe Nordsieck (Melanie); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Tracy and Evangeline; birth mother, Jeanne Ranieri; half-brother-in-law, Alan Weeks; father & mother-in-law, Bill & Aune Malmberg; and brother-in-law, Don Malmberg.
A special thanks to Clatsop Care Center & Fresenius Kidney Care staff for their excellent, loving care of Jim. A Memorial Service will be held at Astoria Methodist Church at 11th & Franklin on Saturday, March 28th at 11:00am followed by a reception with refreshments at Astoria Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall at 11th & Harrison from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.
Memorial donations can be made to the Astoria Methodist Church or Astoria High School Scholarships for Class of 1964 or Astoria Clowns.
