James B Thomassen Obituary

Bend, Oregon - James B. Thomassen, 77, passed away on June 29th while on vacation in Greece with his beloved wife, Joy Thomassen—doing what he loved most: exploring the world with the person he loved most.

Jim was born in Port Angeles, Washington, on August 23, 1947, to Margaret and Bjarne Thomassen. He grew up in Astoria, Oregon, and later earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon. Jim eventually made his home in Bend, Oregon, where he built a life filled with family, friends, and adventure. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jim lived a full life grounded in love, connection, and curiosity.

He is survived by his wife, Joy Thomassen; his son, Gary Thomassen (wife Sara), and their children, Nicholas and Elizabeth; his daughter, Michelle Thomassen, and her children, Carson and Kaelynne; and his great-grandchildren, Lucas and Beau.

Jim had a passion for life—his joy was contagious, and his warmth made everyone feel like family. He loved to travel, especially with Joy by his side, and cherished every opportunity to connect with the people he loved.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Saturday, September 27th, 2025, at Aspen Hall in Shevlin Park, Bend, Oregon. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and share memories.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
