Lois Kaino Obituary
Lake Oswego, Oregon - Lois Ann (Driscoll) Kaino passed away on May 4, 2025 in Lake Oswego, Oregon, where she resided for the past 4 years in memory care. She was 91 years old. Prior to moving to Lake Oswego, she resided in Hammond, Oregon for over 25 years.
Lois Ann Driscoll was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1933 in Portland, Oregon. Her parents, Thomas Driscoll and Hazel (Heron) Driscoll welcomed their third child. Lois joined her two older sisters Barbara and Evelyn. Later on, younger brothers Les and Ken and sisters Virginia and Beverly were added to the family. Prior to Lois's high school years, Tom and Hazel and their 7 children moved to Ocean Park, Washington.
During her high school years, Lois worked as a reporter for the newspaper, the Tribune and a waiter at the Moby Dick Hotel. Lois graduated from Ilwaco High School in 1951. She married her high school sweetheart, "Ronnie" Kaino on January 12, 1952. Ron and Lois celebrated 70 years of marriage. They resided in Ilwaco, where they welcomed their first child, Todd Kaino and later, daughters Teri and Tami. In 1967, the family moved to the Warrenton, Oregon area where they purchased a cranberry farm and were Ocean Spray Growers for over 30 years.
After retiring, Ron and Lois purchased their dream retirement home at Pt. Triumph in Hammond. They enjoyed their riverfront home on the Columbia. For over 20 years, they spent the winters in the greater Palm Springs area, at their children's homes in Bermuda Dunes and Palm Desert.
Lois started a career in banking at the National Bank of Commerce in Ilwaco. She also worked at the local P.U.D. After moving to Oregon, she also worked at U.S. Bank and Bank of Astoria. Her community involvement included holding all offices in the local Rebekah Lodge. She was a member of the Red's Café bowling team. In Oregon, she served in many capacities for the Miss Oregon Pageant. She also was involved with student reading programs in the local grade school.
Lois was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chinook where she also taught
Sunday School. In Oregon, she attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Seaside. When in the
California desert, she attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Palm Springs.
An avid sports fan, she loved cheering on the Oregon State Beavers. She also attended many
NFL games and PGA golf events. Her family and her faith were driving influences in a life well lived.
Lois is survived by her son, Todd (Karen) Kaino, daughters Teri (Gregg) Harrod and Tami (Joe)
Peterson and grandson Nicholas (Vani) Harrod. Her brother, Les Driscoll, also survives. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Ronald E. Kaino, and parents, Tom and Hazel Driscoll, brother Ken Driscoll, sisters Barbara Smith, Evelyn Lynn, Beverly Johnson, and Virginia Wilson and a baby daughter, Tina Rae Kaino.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 16 th at 1:00 pm at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of
Chinook, with interment at Ilwaco cemetery.
In memory of Lois, a donation to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Chinook is suggested in her honor.
