Marybeth "Mary" Pierson DeLong
Marybeth "Mary" Pierson DeLong Obituary
Corvallis - Mary DeLong passed away on August 25th of natural causes. She spent much of her childhood in Tualatin, Oregon, when it was just a small town. Her family moved to southeast Portland in the mid-sixties. After graduating from Cleveland High School in 1969, Mary attended Mt. Hood Community College and Portland State University. She worked as a manager for Steinfeld's Products Company for 14 years. When her only child left for college, Mary moved to Ocean Park and spent many years working as the Finance Director for the Port of Ilwaco. She then moved on to become Executive Director of the Port of Peninsula in Nahcotta. After she retired from managing there, she was elected to serve as one of its Port Commissioners.
Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Melanie and David Sorenson, her grandson Bastian Sorenson, her sister Terri Staples, many nieces and great nieces, nephews and great nephews, and many friends she loved dearly. She was a student of human nature, and a lover of nature. She believed everyone deserved a second chance, and that everyone was artistic, they just needed to find their medium. She was a private person who enjoyed making people laugh with silly jokes and antics. She believed in the power of positive thinking, and often said, "careful what you wish for." This wonderful lady will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
