Astoria, OR - Michael Douglas Gore (74), born October 6th, 1950 in Beaumont, Texas, passed away on May 20th while on his annual Snake River camping trip surrounded by some of his closest friends. He spent the last 46 years living in what he called the Goldilocks Zone of the Pacific Northwest just outside Astoria, Oregon with his wife Edie, and their dog Max, and two cats Nicky and Zoey.

Mike served in the Navy from 1971-1974, allowing him to travel the world. He enjoyed outdoor activities like fishing, camping, and hunting. Early in life he became interested in radio technologies and later channeled that interest into Broadcast Engineer and Radio Technician careers. He was deeply involved in the HAM radio community, having taught hundreds of classes which resulted in more than 200 people obtaining their licenses. One of his proudest moments came during the 2007 winter storm which took out regular communications around the county. Amidst the storm, a helicopter lowered him by basket to the top of Wickiup Mountain to repair a generator and successfully reinstate the local HAM radio broadcasting. When weather prevented a helicopter extraction, a couple of his buddies took chainsaws and drove up after him, clearing the road of downed trees to bring him home.

Mike was full of kindness and grace. He was always happy to lend a hand to friends, neighbors, strangers or animals in need until his big, compassionate heart gave out on him.

He is survived by his wife Edith, son Michael Daniel Gore (Kelly Goforth), his daughter Melissa Gore (Rachelle Dilley), and his sister Ginger Powell. A private family event will be held at a later date. To honor Mike, please make a memorial donation to the charity of your choice.

Mike has moved on with the angle of the dangle and the coefficient of coupling, having completed his last Black Ops mission. He will be missed by many.
