Paul Erik Bauge Obituary

Canby, Oregon - Paul Erik Bauge passed away peacefully in his sleep in his home in Canby, Or surrounded by

family in the early morning hours of April 22, 2025. He was 86 years old.

Born January 31, 1939 in Portland, OR. He spent his early years growing up in John Day and

graduated from Baker High School. He was a multi-sport athlete, a scholar, and attended Boys

State and Nation. He went on to attend University of Oregon where he was an academic All-

American at tight end for the Ducks, #84 in your program #1 in your heart. He played for Coach

Casanova and appeared in the Liberty Bowl in 1961. He was also the freshman class president,

the president of his fraternity, Theta Chi, and was actively involved in student government.

Paul started to develop real estate and acquired rental properties where he refurbished and

managed them with his wife, Marlene. He then moved his wife and five children to Long Beach

WA., bought a boat, became a commercial fisherman, and raised his family. He loved making fresh clam chowder, which meant early morning clam digs for the entire family so he could maximize the amount of clams captured. During their time there, Paul was very involved in the community, schools and children sports. With all five of his children in multiple sports, he attended every game he could, home and away. Which meant most nights he was in a gym or on a field supporting (with some yelling) the IHS Fighting Fisherman. He was the Booster Club president for many years. He started a management career with Ocean Spray Cranberries which took them to Bandon, OR. After retiring, his entrepreneurialism and always positive attitude led him to buying and running a cranberry farm until age 80.

Paul was preceded in death by his father Vernon "Boge", mother Cathleen and brother Chris.

He's survived by his 2 sisters Kitsy Thomas and Robin Large, wife Marlene, five children; Chris, Robin, Kelly, Brant, and Brett. He also had 14 grandchildren: Rachel, Carrie, Hunter, Cole, Ryek, Ella, Ty, Jake, Brock, Maddy, Kelly, Luke, Brody and Wyatt.

Paul liked to tell his children as they left the house, "Keep your powder dry"! He was a man of integrity, honesty and lived by the rule to always do what's right. Paul said, "When I was young, I decided to embrace a concept I heard from Will Rogers, which was if I can't say something nice about someone, I won't say anything."
