Portland - Richard Thomas Vetricek of Warrenton, Oregon, passed away in Portland, Oregon, on December 27th, 2025. He was born on April 25th, 1938, in Santa Rosa, California, to Joseph and Louise Morvak-Vetricek, along with his twin sister, Marion. He grew up in Guerneville, California. After graduating from Analy High School in Sebastopol, California, he went on to join the U.S. Navy. He served on the U.S.S. Roanoke as an electrician. His time in the navy brought him to Astoria, where he met his first wife, Dolores Corder, they later divorced. In 1984, he married Michaele (Mike) Sherwood-Nichols. He retired as a longshoreman from ILWU Local 50 after many years of service. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, was a master of woodworking—making rocking chairs, horses, and toys— and enjoyed fishing. He is survived by his wife, Michaele; his twin sister, Marion Rose; his children, Denise Leach (Adam), Richard Vetricek (Lora), Dean Vetricek (Evie), Tara Mestrich (Bryan); stepchildren, Heather Nichols, Sean Nichols (Kandace); and numerous grand children and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Caldwell-Murphy Mortuary in Astoria, Oregon.
