Warrenton - Steve was born in Coos Bay, Oregon. His parents were Richard and Carlalee Allen. He and his family moved to Salem, Oregon in 1960 where he graduated from North Salem High School in 1970. Steve loved the Beavers and graduated with a Business degree from Oregon State University in 1974. After graduation, he worked for the Oregon Department of Revenue in Astoria, Oregon and studied for his CPA exams. Three years later, he worked and interned with Gill Johnson, a local CPA. He would go on to buy out Gill's CPA firm and
rebrand as Stephen Allen, CPA. Steve's lifelong passion was being a CPA and working one on one with his clients.
In 1996, Steve became a silent partner in The Wet Dog Café. After only one year, he bought his partners out and started Astoria's first brewery, Pacific Rim Brewing
Company, inside the Wet Dog Café. In 2005, the brewery was renamed Astoria Brewing Company to
commemorate Astoria's first brewery before prohibition which was founded in 1872. He was a proud owner and often would invite his clients over to Astoria Brewing, after talking taxes and "buy" them a beer.
Steve had a special love for his family and loved being able to work side by side with them in the family businesses. Steve & his family celebrated the restoration
of several businesses and buildings in disrepair in downtown Astoria: Andrew & Steve's Restaurant, now Astoria Brewing Company's beer production facility and Chart Room; Desdemona Club; Erickson Larsen Ensemble Uppertown; Larsen & Fischer-Attorney offices, which became Steve's CPA office, now Reid &
Allen Tax; Riviera Building-Columbian Theater-Columbian Cafe; Pier 11 Buildings; and Wet Dog Café, now Astoria Brewing Company-Pub.
He is survived by his wife Karen Allen; brother, Ken Allen; sons, Daniel Allen (Nikole), Michael Allen (Laurel) & Stephen Allen (Heather); step children, Kera
Jaakola (Petri), Andrew Huber (Keely), Leanne Huber (Darren), and Lynnae Reid (Nigel); along with 13 grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
Astoria Brewing will be opening it's doors for the community to have one last beer on Steve and toast his legacy as a silent pillar in the City of Astoria on Saturday, January 24th from 1-4pm. Light hors d'oeuvres will be
provided.
