Hillsboro - Steven (The Baum) Arthur Baumgardner was born in Walla Walla, Washington, oldest child of
Frank and Evelyn Baumgardner. Steve's father was an Upholsterer and Stage Coach driver. After a
stroke at an early age Steve was in and out of the School System. Sometime around 1967 Steve was
sent by his parents to Tacoma Washington's Salvation Army for rehabilitation. Steve said he did not like it there, so with the help of an old school friend (Ike) he said "I blew that pop-cycle stand". The two friends looked for work in Seattle but settled in Portland, Oregon. The International House of Pancakes in downtown may have been their first job until they were hired at the car-parking garage for Meyer & Franks. After leaving Portland he entered a commune in east Clatsop County. In the early 1970's Steve got a job with the Bumble Bee Cold Storage driving forklift and clean up, later he worked at Pacific Shrimp and Johnson Oil. In 1979 he bought his own home which he later paid off. He liked hunting with his friends, but fishing was his real talent. He could tie his gear with one hand and his teeth. He is preceded in death by his parents and only siblings, brother Thomas and sister Karen. We will all miss you "Baum".
Memorial service details will be shared at a later date.
