Ocean Park - Steven Kenneth "Steve" Whiting, 56, passed away on December 3, 2025, in Ocean Park, Washington. Born on February 14, 1969, in Portland, Oregon, Steve lived a life marked by creativity, resilience, and a deep love for both people and animals.
Steve spent his early years in the Portland and Gresham area. Though he left high school before graduating, he later found great pride in earning his GED through the GHC Columbia Education Center after moving to the Long Beach Peninsula. This achievement was a meaningful milestone for him—one that brought him immense satisfaction and a sense of long-awaited accomplishment.
A man of many talents, Steve was known for his artistic spirit and hands-on skills. He had a remarkable ability to create fantasy and mythical creatures from driftwood collected along local beaches—his dragons were especially admired. His creativity extended beyond art; he was also skilled in construction and masonry, trades he learned from his father. Whether building something from scratch or restoring what others thought was beyond repair, Steve's craftsmanship left a lasting impression.
Even as health challenges limited his activity later in life, Steve remained someone who liked to keep busy. He could often be found working in the garage or working on one of his imaginative creations. His love for animals was evident to all who knew him—he welcomed dogs, cats, snakes, and even spiders into his life with open arms.
Steve had a strong spiritual foundation. He could quote scripture with ease and conviction and held an unshakable belief that there was a place waiting for him in heaven. That quiet confidence gave comfort to those around him.
He is survived by his mother, Barbara Gramps; his sister, Leanne Whiting; his brother, Scott Whiting; and his son, Sean Whiting. Steve also leaves behind a daughter, Cierra Reynolds. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Whiting, and his stepfather, Mike Gramps.
Steve is deeply loved by his family and will be missed more than words can express. His smile and happy-go-lucky attitude brought light even during difficult times. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and may the legacy of his creativity live on through the art he left behind.
