Astoria - Willard Nyberg passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 24 at the Clatsop Care Assisted Living facility.

He was born on October 15, 1938 in Steele, North Dakota, to Emil and Hilda Nyberg. He moved to Astoria with his family when he was 2.

He married Charolette Hammonds on May 14, 1960.

He was an Army Reservist, worked construction, and spent summers gillnet fishing in Alaska. He helped construct the Astoria-Megler bridge. He was a warehouse foreman and forklift driver for many years, first at Bumble Bee, then American Can Company, and finally at Astoria Warehousing.

Willard loved traveling with his family and was a member of Suomi Hall. He enjoyed shuffleboard, softball, painting, and evil-level sudokus.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Wesley Nyberg, and his wife of 63 years.

He is survived by his four sisters, Mavis Bradshaw, Joyce Sipe, Elsie Ford, and Dolly Coffee; his children, Willie Nyberg (Lisa), Shellie O'Connor (Marc), Mindy Nyberg (Chris); his grandchildren, Brittany Goetsch (Dalton), Kaylee Makinson (Seth), Dara Stevens (Doug), Josh Sutton (Laura), Gabe Sutton (Andrea), Maggie O'Connor, Becki O'Connor, Stephen O'Connor, Jesus Cerpa Mendoza (Vanessa); and 15 great-grandchildren.

A service will be from 10-11am Thursday, July 31, at Caldwell-Murphy Mortuary, followed by a reception at Warrenton Christian Church.
